I Got An Aura Reading For The First Time And Was Scared By How Accurate It Was

I had no idea what to expect for my first ever aura reading. I have a few friends who swear by their results and was honestly curious to see how my own session would go.

I decided to also drag along one of my best friends and roommate, Courtney, to compare our results. She is much more skeptical than me when it comes to all this "hippie stuff," so I figured it would be a nice contrast. That said, even she had to admit she was pretty surprised by what the woman told us.

After consulting the best places to go in NYC, we made our way to Magic Jewelry in Chinatown. According to online reviews, people have been going to the store on a regular basis for years. Reading these reviews, it seems they left with scarily accurate interpretations in their aura reading.

Take a look to learn more about what exactly our auras are supposed to be and how accurate the results were for me and my friend.

And be sure to SHARE the fascinating info with your friends on Facebook who might want to give it a try, too!

What Is An Aura?

According to the trusty folks at Merriam-Webster, an aura is "a distinctive atmosphere surrounding a given source" or "energy field that is held to emanate from a living being."

Above is a rough estimate of what I thought my aura might look like before heading out for my reading.

How To See Auras

What the dictionary definition fails to mention is how auras are also apparently invisible to the naked eye.

According to Gaia.com, you must train your mind to psychically perceive the energy around you through practice and paying close attention to your peripheral vision.

The reading offered at Magic Jewelry, however, provides a visual aid thanks to a special camera capturing an image on film for those of us without that particular gift.

What Does An Aura Reading Tell You?

Unlike other so-called psychics or spiritual seers, the person reading your aura isn't looking into the depths of your past and future.

Instead, they are interpreting how your energy has been affected over the past two weeks or so and how that could potentially evolve in your near future.

Going In For An Aura Reading

I really didn't know what to expect going in for my reading. Mostly, I just hoped to have a pretty photo with some cool lights on it — and that there wouldn't be a huge line when I got there.

First Impressions At The Aura Reading

Luckily, Courtney and I were happy to see a relatively short line when we got to Magic Jewelry.

The people surrounding us ranged from tourists looking for a unique souvenir from NYC to seasoned pros comparing their results to previous experiences in front of the aura camera lens.

I don't want to sound too hippy-dippy, but the atmosphere was what I would call "good vibes." One woman even offered out these fascinating fruits (which I later learned are called rambutan) to the rest of us in line as she left from her reading.

Aura Colors And Meanings

The reader will explains all of the ways to interpret every shade the aura photography reveals hovering around a person, but signs around the store broke them down into these main categories:

  • Red: vital
  • Orange: optimistic
  • Yellow: creative
  • Purple: magical
  • Blue: tranquil
  • Green: healing

My Aura Reading

The woman explained how the flow of energy moves from left to right in the photo. The left side represents your past couple of weeks while the right indicates where it is moving toward the future. There are also several chakras along the body with the energy level and color indicating its health.

I have to admit, my reading was pretty darn accurate. She first commented on how much energy I had flowing through the photo with the yellow reaching near the top of the frame.

The mixture of green, orange, and yellow indicated my creative nature — the woman was not surprised to learn I make a living as a writer! She also said I prefer to lead and manage things at my own pace, which is true, and that I'm excited about new opportunities coming my way, which again is true.

I was especially taken aback by how she knew I tend to spend a bit too much money and "need to keep cash in the bank" more often. She even knew that I have a vacation coming up!

I also very recently — and drastically — changed my eating habits, and she made note of my digestion chakra needing some work adjusting to that.

My Friend's Aura Reading

As I said, Courtney was super skeptical going into the reading. After looking at the photos of others around the store, she made a prediction that her photo would probably turn out to be red, but she wouldn't tell me why she assumed that until after we left the shop.

She turned out to be right, but that didn't stop her from being impressed as the woman interpreted the subtle hues of orange and yellow also found throughout the image.

Her energy was slightly lower than mine, not quite reaching the top of the frame, but it was still strong. The woman claimed Courtney was exhausted by a life of "work, home, work, home," and not finding the time to pursue what really makes her happy rather than just getting by.

All of this was accurate, as well as the fact that she claimed Courtney is generally easy going — but not afraid to speak her mind. After knowing Courtney for more than half my life, that is exactly how I would describe her.

Are Aura Readings Accurate?

As far as Courtney and I were concerned, the accuracy was a little scary. Courtney's assumption that it would be a red light around her turned out to be just because she was wearing all black with long sleeves, which would reflect that color the best — but even she had to admit the woman made some spot-on interpretations!

We both want to go back in a few weeks to see whether our chakras have changed after following some of the advice the woman gave us for cleansing our energy.

For me, that means moving around more with yoga or other stretches to help my digestion. Also, of course, work on saving money — something I definitely need to work on regardless.
