I Tried The ‘Most Intense’ Face Mask Ever. 30 Minutes Later, My Skin Started To Crack

New beauty products are always exciting, even if the results are completely unexpected.

The Hanacure mask is a face mask meant to produce flawless skin in just minutes. Many celebrities and online publications like Elle have written about the product. It's like an at-home facial!

But the most captivating thing about the Hanacure mask is the fact that after you've applied it, the mask makes you look so much older. Then, you wipe it off and have a fresh, youthful face… or so you'd hope.

It is something that you need to see to believe. If you've checked out Instagram in the last six months, you've probably seen many beauty bloggers testing out the product.

After E.T. star Drew Barrymore tried it, the thing became dubbed the "Drew Barrymore mask," and for good reason! Her pictures documenting the experience were great.

I love to use face masks on a weekly basis. From green tea to charcoal, I use various substances to soothe and console my skin. I went to a lot of weddings this summer and I've wanted to cleanse my face to give it some new life after wearing a lot of makeup. Once I saw a picture of the Hanacure mask results, I knew I had to try it for myself.

What Is The Hanacure Mask?

If you are very active on social media, then you've probably seen a review for the Hanacure mask. Many beauty influencers on Instagram, as well as celebrities like Drew Barrymore, have used the product.

The mask, which comes in sleek, pretty packaging, touts flawless skin in minutes. For anyone who hates going to a spa for services, an at-home skin remedy that will restore your skin's beauty is the dream. I know I've been looking for a cure-all mask to get rid of my bags, dark spots, and large pores.

While this mask does promise beautiful skin, it comes with a bit of a "catch." As the mask dries, your skin looks "100 years old." Once you wash it off, though, your face looks younger than ever.

What Is Hanacure Supposed To Do?

Hanacure is a product from South Korea that is inspired by the lotus flower. On the company's website, they explain that "in Asian culture, the lotus flower represents rebirth and purity as it emerges from murky waters to blossom anew each day. The flowers remain pure, clean, and untouched despite its adverse surroundings."

On their website, the product's description reads:

We bring you the Hanacure All-In-One Facial, the only product to deliver a transformative experience in 30 minutes. After thorough tests and research, patented CO2 OctoLift™ tightens, brightens, contours, and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles, giving you a restored and youthful appearance. With dedicated use, your skin will continually improve, relegating age to truly becoming nothing but a number.

How Does Hanacure Work?

Hanacure's website describes the science behind their product for proven results: "Mixing the Lifting Serum and Gelling Solution creates a Purifying Compound that is designed to absorb impurities, toxins, and other contaminants when applied to your skin."

The lifting and firming serums work hand in hand to fight off the signs of aging after the botanical extracts have purified and cleansed the skin. You can buy a starter kit for $29, or the set for $110.

Revelist called the product the "most intense" face mask. After trying it, I'd have to say I agree.

How To Use The Hanacure Mask

Using the Hanacure mask is pretty simple! It comes in two parts, with an easy-to-use applicator brush.

You mix the serum and sealed solution together to create a gel that you apply to your face. This was my favorite part, as I enjoyed using the brush to paint my face with the gel.

After you're all done applying the product, you wait for 30 minutes.

My Skin Before Using The Hanacure Mask

I am 26 years old, yet I still get pimples and blackheads like I am 16. My pores are bigger than I'd like to admit. But now, not only do I worry about breakouts, I can't seem to get rid of these dark circles under my eyes.

Thankfully, my glasses help block out how bad my bags are. But if I get an hour or two of sleep less than usual, they are pretty bad.

While I am still young, I did have bad skin habits for a while: I used to lie in a tanning bed three to four times a week for several months in a row.

Thankfully, it has been over five years since my tanning days, but I've worried for a while now that it permanently aged my skin.

Applying The Hanacure Mask

When mixing the serum with the solution, I needed to peel off a cap. I didn't realize I hadn't followed the instructions exactly and had a hard time pulling the cap off.

After I mixed the two and formed the gel, I applied it to my face using the brush. I covered my neck as well!

The gel went on very easily but made my skin feel greasy. I have sensitive skin, so within the first five minutes, I started to itch. I was afraid that meant I was allergic to the product, but thankfully it subsided after a few more minutes.

As it dried, I could feel my skin tightening. Like I said, I've tried many face masks over the years, but nothing has ever felt like this before. It was like I couldn't even move my face!

30 Minutes After Applying Hanacure

After reading other reviews, I knew this product would make me look "old." Even though I knew it was coming, I was so surprised to look in the mirror and see my face.

Before Taking Off The Hanacure Mask

My boyfriend asked me what happened to my face when he saw me. He said I looked like a grandma!

While I was wearing the mask, I could feel the "wrinkles" happening anytime I moved my face. Whenever my skin moved, the mask cracked and formed little spiderwebs.

After Using The Hanacure Mask

Initially, I felt like I couldn't see any difference in my skin. In fact, I felt like I looked very red.

I gave my skin a 30-minute break before checking it again. After that time, I noticed the redness had settled down.

Final Hanacure Mask Review

Would I use this product again? Yes, but I'd only use it if I could do it two times a week, like the product recommends. I wonder if a one-time use just isn't enough to determine the full potential this product has for my skin.

Would I recommend it to a friend? It depends on the friend and their skin type. If it is a friend my age and they're looking for a quick fix, I'd say maybe look for something else. If they have a few weeks and the funds to buy the larger quantity of this, then I'd say give it a try.

Final thoughts: While the visual difference isn't big (I still have horrible under-eye bags), my skin is very soft. I do feel that my pores were less noticeable in the "after" photo as well.

Other reviews claimed that this product made them look "100 years old and then 10 years younger," but I wonder if I am too young for this. At 26, I don't think my skin is exactly young anymore, since I used to fake tan a lot, but I don't think I looked any younger after trying this out. But I did enjoy having softer skin!
