It's generally considered a fashion faux pas to wear the same outfit as someone else at the same event.
When that event is a wedding, which is typically immortalized for years to come in the form of hundreds upon hundred of professional photos and hours of video footage, that embarrassment can be even worse. But one group of wedding guests couldn't help but laugh off the embarrassment when several of them showed up to the nuptials in the exact same dress.
It wasn't just two or three women who showed up to their friend's wedding in identical gowns — it was six! And the most hilarious part is that most of the women didn't even know each other at all. The situation was a complete coincidence.
Now the whole world is in on the joke, right along with the "accidental bridesmaids."

It all started when Debbie Speranza of Australia shared a cute photo of what appeared to be a bride and her six bridesmaids.
But as it turned out, the situation was a lot more hilarious than that.
"Who wore it best???? #backupbridesmaids," Debbie captioned the funny photo.
In reality, the six women weren't bridesmaids at all. In fact, the situation was a total coincidence and they were all guests at the wedding.
The dress is actually the Debbie Lace Pencil Dress from the Australian company Forever New.
It has a nude slip with a lace overlay, available in either navy (which the six guests all opted for) or pale blue. The dress costs $159.99 AUD ($128).
The funny photo went massively viral after Debbie shared, along with an explanation of the situation, on the Forever New Facebook page.
"You really should start a bridal registry so that your customers can enquire whether anyone else has purchased one of your dresses for the same event no we are NOT the bridesmaids just the guests think I deserve a gift voucher for all this advertisement," Debbie wrote. She tagged the bride, Julia Mammone, in her post.

Julia married husband Dominic Mammone on September 16, 2017, also known as the day of "DressGate."
Clearly, the bride wasn't bothered by all the attention the dress situation received. "Hilarious!!!" she commented.
Women all over the world couldn't get enough of the hilarious situation.
A few, like Noelle Hamilton, chimed in saying that they, too, own that particular dress and had worn it to weddings they'd attended as a guest.
Debbie's post on Forever New's page has been shared over 1,200 times!
Despite all of the attention the funny photo has received, Debbie still has a good sense of humor about the situation.
"I am laughing so hard at the moment….cannot believe how many likes (over 10,000) and comments (over 600) for my photo about the dresses at the wedding," Debbie wrote.
"Forever New you owe me a gift voucher for the advertisement," she joked.
I have to echo Debbie's question — what are the odds of six virtual strangers wearing the same dress (in the same color) to a mutual friend's wedding?
