I'm a beauty brand's perfect consumer, meaning that I will try just about anything — especially if it's promising to keep my adult acne at bay. As someone who has been plagued with acne since I was 10 years old, I'm always looking for the next great miracle product to "cure" it.
While I've gone to the dermatologist in the past and have been prescribed expensive medications, nothing has really worked for my acne. So when I saw Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch on Amazon for $17.49, I knew I had to try it out and see if it was the secret to clear skin once and for all.
The product is a sticky, clear liquid that is applied before putting on makeup. It claims to create a barrier between your skin and makeup thus keeping your pores from getting clogged and causing more acne.
With a three-star rating, the reviews were mixed. Some users said it was very easy to use and a "lifesaver," while another wrote the product was "not worth all the hype."
I decided to wear Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch for 7 days to see how it felt on my face. I wanted to find out if using the product had any effect on my current acne and if it kept new pimples from forming.

What Is Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch?
Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch is a .33 fl. oz clear liquid beauty product hailing from Korea. It retails for $17.49, which is about half the price of the high-end makeup primer I usually reach for.
It arrived wrapped in black packaging, which almost made it seem like I ordered an unmentionable to test out and my boss thought it was hilarious. Luckily, once you unwrap it, the product is in a little box.
On Amazon, the product description said:
All natural Centella Asiatica extract takes care of sensitive skin trouble by creating a transparent shield on skin preventing makeup products to directly touch the skin and protect. Spot control, Skin calming, Skin protection
After further research, Centella Asiatica is a perennial plant that is known to help cure skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis.
What Does Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch Claim To Do?
The Face Shield Patch is meant to be a barrier that protects your skin from coming in contact with makeup and dirt — which can cause acne.
While the box and product are in Korean, the Amazon description says it "can also help reduce the amount of casual sebum produced by your skin and refresh your tired skin."
Casual sebum is the oil you feel on your face throughout the day that is secreted from the skin's sebaceous glands. I, personally, have more than casual sebum excretion as my face is very oily all of the time so I was interested to see if it could really stop or limit my sebum.
How To Apply Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch
Again, the instructions are in Korean so I applied the product like I would a primer.
The Amazon link said to "thinly apply the patch before putting on makeup" and I followed those directions.
After washing my face and patting it dry, I squeezed a small amount of the Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch on my finger and smoothed a thin layer over my entire face.
If you use this product, do not use a foundation brush to apply your makeup. While I usually always use a beauty sponge, I wanted to see if a foundation brush could work over the Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch. Unfortunately, the bristles are too rough on the liquid and it began peeling immediately.
Using a foundation brush gave me the worst result out of any of the methods I tried and I had to start my makeup routine all over again after applying my foundation with a brush over the product.
Wearing Makeup Over The Face Shield
Since it is clear, you couldn't see the product on my face except for a few shiny spots. It did feel very tight like a mud mask once it dried.
I used a beauty sponge to apply my makeup as normal over the Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch in the morning at 9.
My face didn't look any different after I had all of my makeup on over the prodcut and I was ready to head to work.
My Results With The Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch
I knew something was wrong when people on the streets of New York City were actually paying attention to me and not looking at the ground.
When I walked into the LittleThings office, I headed straight for the bathroom.
Within the two hours I had applied the product, it had begun to peel around my mouth, which is also the most textured part of my face because of the blemishes.
The Face Shield Patch looks like dead skin when you pull it off. It reminded me of peeling my skin after a sunburn.
It does not hurt to pull off but does get stuck in any little hairs on your face.
Once a little section started to peel I would have a patch of skin without makeup and it looked so weird. That's when I decided to pull all of it off and go through my day without any makeup on even though it was only 11 in the morning.
How Else Can You Use The Product?
I thought that the product wasn't working well because of all the little hairs on my face that could be keeping the product from actually sticking to my skin. So, I decided to use a little shaver and get rid of all of my facial hair, also known as dermaplaning.
While it seemed like the product stayed on a little longer, ultimately, it peeled off within four to five hours of putting it on.
But, my foundation did go on a lot better with a shaven face — who knew!
Can You Use It With No Makeup?
Yes. Because it's clear, you can wear it alone without adding makeup on top.
Since I have very sensitive skin, it made my complexion a little red since I didn't use my usual moisturizer. It did begin to peel once again on my chin a few hours later.
I will say, using it without makeup I did notice that my skin was not as oily as it usually is when I don't put any product on my face.
Before And After Using Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch
Personally, because my skin is so sensitive I could not go the entire 7 days using it and had to stop after 5.
The acne I had on my face didn't disappear but I did get one small blemish between my eyebrows which never happens.
I was surprised that I didn't get more blemishes using this product as my skin reacts negatively to most new products I try out on my skin.
Would I Use Farmer Maker Direcsil Face Shield Patch Again?
My verdict is no thank you. I would much rather stick with my trusty makeup primer to help keep my acne at bay, as well as, protecting my skin from the elements.
I would not recommend this to a friend nor would I continue using the product because I do not think it did anything it claimed to do except sort of stop sebum on my forehead.
The only place the product worked was on my forehead. I did not get any new blemishes and the product did not start peeling off. I'm assuming that's because the area around my mouth moves far more than my forehead.
I think if you're looking to decrease shine on your forehead this is a nice solution as it seemed to control the oil as it promised.
