State Trooper Jumps Out Of Car When He Spots Tiny Piglet Running Alone Down Interstate Median

Here at LittleThings, we absolutely love stories of police officers going above and beyond the call of duty to support their communities.

One of the best things officers often do? Save animals!

Awhile back, we wrote about these New Jersey state troopers who babysat a little piglet until his farmer came to collect him — and now, there's another state trooper saving a piglet!

In Nebraska, State Trooper Anthony Frederick was driving down the interstate when he spotted something small and pink wandering around the median.

He pulled over and realized the pink animal was actually a tiny, helpless piglet.

The baby pig was running around the barrier between the two directions of the highway, and after a few minutes, Trooper Frederick was able to capture the little rascal.

He brought the piglet back to his police car, snapped a few pictures with the animal, then went back to the station to figure out how to proceed.

On October 5, 2017, Nebraska State Patrol shared three photos of Trooper Frederick and the pig on their Facebook page.

The post got over 5,200 reactions and over 1,900 shares.

They explained:

A piglet was running free in the median of I-80 today, and Trooper Frederick was there to save the day!

He may or may not have had to dive a few times while trying to corral this little ham, but Porky couldn't get away.

Glad he did, because the cars in that area are traveling at 75 miles per hour.

We don’t train specifically for piglet chasing at NSP, so Trooper Frederick had to draw on all of his other training to make the catch.

Since then, we’ve even had other departments ask if we’ll be offering a pig-catching training course they can take. If this keeps happening, we may have to look into it!

The piglet was taken to the Capital Humane Society in Lincoln. They named him Wilber and he’s going through the process to get ready for adoption.

Later, the Nebraska State Patrol shared this update, writing:

Remember this little guy?

Since so many people have asked what happened to him, we just got an update from the Capital Humane Society in Lincoln.

If you want to adopt him (the piglet, not Trooper Frederick), give them a shout. And if you can’t get this one, they do have other piglets too.

BTW: They named him Wilber!

Everyone who saw the story fell in love with Wilber (and Trooper Frederick)!

This is just one more way police officers and state troopers go out of their way to look out for others.

"Chasing down a piglet" may not be in Trooper Frederick's job description, but that didn't stop him from doing everything he could to help.

What do you think of this adorable piglet?
