When I was a little kid, I refused to wear jeans. Why would I wear uncomfortable denim when I could just wear stretchy, soft leggings all the time instead?
It wasn't until middle school that I actually bought my first pair of jeans. I quickly realized that I'd had the wrong idea about jeans all along. There were tons of options, and a lot of them were way more comfortable than I'd ever imagined.
Fast-forward to today: I wear jeans almost every single day. They're easy and comfortable, and they're stylish during every season.
Of course, sometimes they're not perfectly cozy, like when they just come out of the wash (you all know what I'm talking about).
That's how I ended up thinking about PajamaJeans. I'd seen the infomercial for these goofy "denim" pants a million times, but I'd always scoffed at the idea of a pair of jeans that could double as pajamas.
So I decided it was time to try them out. Read below to find out whether my PajamaJeans lived up to the hype or fell flat — like I originally expected!
What Are PajamaJeans?
So what exactly are PajamaJeans? The website is somewhat vague, writing:
Comfortable by design, with zero sacrifice to style, PajamaJeans gives women and men the comfort they need and the designer details they crave.
They do share a little more detail, though, explaining that these pants are made out of their exclusive “Dormisoft Denim.” They write:
Dormisoft Denim embraces your curves and ensures an unbelievable fit that flatters all shapes and sizes.
Buying PajamaJeans
Buying PajamaJeans was pretty straightforward: you can get them straight from their website.
After browsing the options, I decided to go with the style that looked most like normal jeans: the Skinny Vintage Wash. Here's the website's description of this style:
Boasting a well-loved look, this popular skinny style features a touch of gentle fading and whiskering. Made to wear often in soft, stretchy Dormisoft® Denim.
I looked at the sizing chart to determine my size and ended up ordering a small.
How Are PajamaJeans Different From Normal Jeans?
PajamaJeans look almost exactly like normal jeans, but the one main difference is that there's no zipper or button.
To my surprise, I found that PajamaJeans do in fact have pockets both in the front and back, and they were actually big enough to hold my phone (which is more than I can say about most women's pants).
Since there's no zipper or button, the pants have a cute little drawstring just inside the waistband.
Because there's a drawstring, there's no awkward elastic. This is how the pants are able to look like jeans and not like sweatpants.
The Experiment
For 48 hours straight, I would wear my brand-new PajamaJeans. Yes, that means I'd wear them both to the office and to bed. The goal of the experiment would be to find out whether these pants work as both pajamas and jeans.
And no, before you ask, this doesn't mean I wouldn't shower for 48 hours. I could still shower and change my underwear. Don't be gross.
I wear skinny jeans almost every day, so I knew it wouldn't be weird to wear my new PajamaJeans to the office.
Day 1
I decided to start by wearing my PajamaJeans as jeans. I had a feeling they'd stretch out after wearing them for a while, which is why I wore them to work before sleeping in them.
Before work, I threw them on with a gray and black sweater and a pair of casual sneakers.
I was impressed by how comfortable the pants were — and how much they really looked like normal jeans!
That night, I showered and put my PajamaJeans back on. They definitely felt comfier than regular jeans, but not quite as cozy as my normal jammies. Most nights, I usually just wear a pair of my boyfriend's boxers.
Even though I felt a little weird, I went to sleep and slept well all night long. In the morning, I changed into my work clothes but kept my PajamaJeans on.
On the second day, the PajamaJeans definitely didn't feel as snug as they had the first day.
Normally, I'm happy when my jeans stretch out a little bit, but with these, I wasn't as excited. As they started to stretch, the knees started getting a little loose, and the pants started bunching up around my ankles a little more.
That said, they were definitely still very comfortable.
After The Experiment
After the experiment, I was happy to go back to my normal jeans — they're more form-fitting and I don't have to pull them up as often.
Even though I put my old jeans back on, I didn't put my PajamaJeans into the back of some closet or anything. Nope, I put them right into my drawer with other jeans, just waiting for another good day to wear them.
Days later, I found the perfect use for my PajamaJeans.
My parents were in town, and we decided to go out for brunch, but I didn't feel like putting on real clothes. I still wanted to look presentable, so I went for my PajamaJeans.
Final Thoughts
Would I wear PajamaJeans again? Um, yes. I already have. I don't think I'll wear them to work or as pajamas, but they're pretty perfect for weekend outings when I want to be comfortable but still look decent.
Would I recommend PajamaJeans to a friend? If you wear jeans as often as I do and are looking for an extra comfy pair, definitely!
