Most of us can agree that our pets are part of our family. Oftentimes, they're even your favorite family members.
Of course, when people talk about their pets, we think of dogs, cats, or some other furry creature. However, not everyone opts to share their home with a conventional species.
Meet MacGyver: the Argentine red tegu lizard who shares a home (and bed) with his owners, Scott and Ice, in San Diego. You can't exactly just go adopt one from a shelter.
Reptiles aren't usually popular pets, because they aren't cuddly. Most of the time, they have to be kept in a tank.
However, MacGyver has proven himself quite housebroken and domesticated for a lizard, and especially for a lizard of his size.
In fact, MacGyver might even act more like a dog than your more traditional four-legged friend. Without further ado, meet MacGyver, the lizard who will probably make you rethink your next pet purchase.

MacGyver and his mom, Ice, are very close. They document their adventures together on Instagram.
In fact, MacGyver is very popular on the internet.
He has over 181,000 Instagram followers, and 33,000 followers on YouTube.
A lot of the videos involve MacGyver eating. His species, the Argentine red tegu, is carnivorous, according to Reptiles Magazine.
They can also grow to more than four feet long.
MacGyver weighs 17 pounds, which is just as much, if not more, than a Jack Russell Terrier.
MacGyver could also live for up to 20 years in captivity — if he's lucky!
The big fella loves to spend time with his mom and basking in the sun more than anything.
Well, anything besides cuddling under the covers next to Ice, that is.
Or being the little spoon for that matter….
