Elvis Presley Gets Frisky With The Audience During ‘Love Me Tender’ In 1970

Following the mega-success of his 1956 debut, Elvis Presley shifted his focus away from music to showcase his acting talents by starring in nearly 30 films throughout the 1960s. Of course, he always made sure to include a song or two in each movie, too. However, as the hippie subculture became more and more popular, he sadly discovered his popularity beginning to drop.

After spending the last few years of the '60s with his sales at a depressingly low point, Presley decided to stage a comeback in 1968 with a live television special that gave his career new life and, by 1970, led him to a month-long residency at the International Hotel in Las Vegas. It was during these performances that he debuted his now-iconic white jumpsuits, inspired by the traditional gis worn in karate, a passion of Presley's. Though he was nervous about the response he'd meet when he began, the shows became such a success that Presley would return to the hotel during the months of February and August for the next five years.

While watching this performance of "Love Me Tender," it's pretty easy to see why the fans were so receptive of his return. Presley has always been a great showman, but shortly after he begins crooning this hit tune, he decides to walk over to the edge of the stage. Suddenly, he sees a woman in the crowd and promptly leans over to give her a kiss!

Presley didn't stop with just one smooch, either… Take a look below to see the whole love-fest.
