Former American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino left the audience speechless when she belted “Summertime” during season 3. More than 10 years later, she returned for the Fox show's farewell season to perform that very tune with contestant La'Porsha Renae.
The two vocal powerhouses left the judges in awe with their passionate performance, similarly to the time a homeless singer blew them away during his audition.
Judge Keith Urban even gave the two ladies a standing ovation, later describing the performance as "an unstoppable force meets an immovable object."
Jennifer Lopez was just as impressed, telling the contestant, “It’s mind-blowing. You did a fantastic job.”
It was bound to be a great performance from the connection these two singers had the moment they met. An emotional La'Porsha opened up to Fantasia about leaving an abusive partner behind, a situation the latter relates to.
"When we get on that stage, I want you to look at me as the sister who went through the same stuff you went through so we are the same," Fantasia told the contestant. "I want you to put all of that feeling, put it in the music."
Fantasia's words of advice certainly did the trick, because La'Porsha is a hard act to follow, as you'll see below.
