Singer Blows Judges Away With Lynyrd Skynyrd Cover On ‘American Idol’

The farewell season of American Idol has been filled with some incredible performances.

From returning Idol winners coming back to the stage that made them famous, to young singers trying their luck at legendary songs, the last season isn’t short on talent.

But when Trent Harmon performed “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, he reminded judge Jennifer Lopez why she’s going to miss the Fox competition show so much.

"It's been having this front seat to watching the perfect song and the perfect singer sing it at that time," she said while fighting back tears. "That's what happened there and it made me feel like, 'Damn, I've been so lucky the five years that I've got to be on this show and watch things like that.'"

Her words couldn't be anymore true in the case of Harmon. The Mississippi native, who got emotional while listening to the judge's praise, blew it out of the park with his rendition of the 1973 song.

To no surprise, judges Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. were just as impressed as Lopez by his memorable performance.

"First of all for me, that is absolutely my favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song, always has been," Urban said. "It's so lyrically perfect for you. And I love how you took the soul aspect of it, the gospel of it, the Southern aspect, and twisted it all in there."
