This past weekend, three heavy metal bands performed live in Seattle.
Having been on the road constantly for the past couple of months, these band members were undoubtedly tired, weary, and homesick.
To their surprise and delight, some incredibly sweet guests were waiting backstage to give them a warm, well-deserved cuddle.
Seattle-based Motley Zoo Animal Rescue, a volunteer-run, donation-funded rescue shelter, brought along a few of their pups backstage.
It made for a rather touching scene. Incredible photos snapped by Niffer Calderwood Photography showed the rockers locked in tender moments with these shelter dogs that were in much need of love and attention.
With these photos, the rescue center hopes to raise awareness of the many foster and adoption opportunities that it offers, and of other ways that animal lovers can help out with the pups.

This past Saturday, members from the heavy metal bands Slayer, Testament, and Carcass did something incredible before going onstage to perform in Seattle.
While backstage, they held and cuddled with a few pups from the Motley Zoo Animal Rescue! It was certainly quite a sight to behold…
Turns out, this wasn’t the first time the popular band members turned their attention to animals in need.
Back in December 2014, members of the band Slayer rescued a homeless kitten that was freezing in the cold.
And, back in 2013, when the band Slayer was on tour, some of its members made sure to keep in touch with the rescue shelter, making regular visits to see how the pups were doing.
“We have a letter out to many of the venues and managers we have met that the artists are welcome to have us bring adoptable animals backstage,” Jme Thomas, executive director of the rescue center, told The Dodo.
The volunteer-run, foster-based rescue hopes that by posting these photos of the band members interacting with the pups (taken by Niffer Calderwood Photography), they’ll be able to spread more awareness about foster opportunities.
In addition, contact with these animals provides band members with much happiness and laughter.
“The other purpose is to provide the [bands] some creature comfort while [they are] road-weary and missing family and pets,” said Jme.
Yet, the shelter relies greatly on donations from organizations like bands, and even writes in their most recent Facebook post:
“Come on rockers, we need you to help us save lives!
“We spend $15,000 a MONTH on vet bills! Even just $1 from you and our annual budget would be covered — for two years!
“Think of how many animals we could rescue then…”
The band members pictured here have done their fair share to help the rescue organization.
Many of them love the idea of bringing pups backstage to spend time with, so some have regularly kept touch with Motley Zoo to coordinate events with them.
In fact, they’re all such good friends, the rescue center even named a whole litter of kittens after the band!
This is definitely one of the more special ways we’ve seen rescue animals interact with famous personalities.
