If you've ever gone to Chick-fil-A and ordered a fountain drink, you may have enjoyed the fact that it stayed colder for a little longer than other fast-food joints. However, you might have also been a little skeptical about the company's use of styrofoam cups, which are very difficult to recycle. After watching this video, you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that those foam cups don't end up in a landfill. Instead of placing the burden on the environment, the company has instead invested in reusing the cups to create new things in their community.
The used cups are collected each week and taken to a facility where they are cleaned, chopped into tiny bits, and then extruded. The pieces are coal-bonded into logs. Those logs are then taken to a plastic recycling company. Using other materials and the cups, they're assembled into park benches so that the entire community benefits. I don't know about you, but it's always great to see large corporations taking an extra step, which they really don't have to, to employ better practices for the environment. It's little things like this that add up to a better, brighter future.
