This is some kind of fate.
A battered, underweight pit bull was found in the most surprising place… alone in a nativity scene, curled up next to the manger holding baby Jesus. The Cincinnati Pit Crew posted photos of the pup in the manger scene on Facebook. The group named him Gabriel after the archangel who told the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to the Savior. Berning saw Gabriel on Facebook and felt compelled to offer him a home — and so Gabriel spent Christmas morning as any young dog should: playing with his new toys.
His gashes have started to heal, he's eating well and he has gained weight. It's incredible that a dog — presumably used for dog fighting — ended up in the most beautiful, hopeful place of all. Deep down, it's like he knew finding the nativity scene would ultimately lead him to his second chance. Now, Gabriel has found a temporary home with loving foster parents and is on his way to his new life.
Gabriel's foster dad says, "He really, I think, gives us the meaning of Christmas. He's got the unconditional love and that's what it's all about. So he's really our gift instead of the other way around."
