Ventriloquist Señor Wences Charms In This 1966 Clip From ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’

What we universally consider to be "funny" has evolved over many years. Comedy from 50 or 60 years ago wouldn't necessarily get a response from younger generations today. But there are still some kinds of humor that stand the test of time, and that have remained relevant, heartwarming, and hilarious. We love these comedic bits: for example, this clip of The Honeymooners is still so funny!

In 1966, a Spanish ventriloquist named Señor Wences made an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, and he brought with him a host of memorable characters! Among them, he brought a disembodied face in a box and a chicken named Cecilia. These unusual puppets help him weave stories and scenarios, and they're all hilarious!

The ventriloquist's well-timed humor and drastic voice changes were key to making his audiences laugh, and he was successful for many years. He appeared a total of 48 times on The Ed Sullivan Show, and had shows on Broadway in major cities.

In the clip, he rotates between characters, giving each their own personalities. He's not just a ventriloquist, but a true artist!

Watch the clip to see his genius work.
