Becoming an older sibling is incredibly exciting. I was very young when my brother was born, but I do remember how much love I immediately felt for the tiny baby as soon as he came home. I got to bottle-feed him in the hospital, and then once he was home, I remember watching on with awe as my mother carefully gave him a warm bath in the sink.
As he grew up, I always felt like I needed to protect him. Of course, we fought, too, as all siblings do every now and again. But, even when we were pretending to hate each other, I still had to make sure that he was never in any danger.
And if he ever did hurt himself? That's when I went into big-sister mode full force. A wrist visibly broken in three places after a sledding accident turned me into his personal comfort person.
When this new big brother holds the tiny baby in his lap, his older-sibling instincts are already kicked in. He carefully holds the delicate head in his hand, and is very gentle. But then, he starts to sing a song to the little guy.
Just from this, you can tell that this young man is going to be such a great older brother for this baby.
