Kind Officer Buys A Homeless Man Lunch And Sits Down To Eat With Him

It's fair to say that kindhearted people make this world go round. Without selfless and compassionate people, where would we be? Single moms like Cherita Hooker wouldn't have places to go home to, abandoned pets would perish in the streets, and little orphaned children wouldn't have families to love. There is no act too small or too big when it's making another human being happy!

Police officers and deputies are well-known for their compassionate natures. This cop had just come off his lunch break when he slowed down traffic to save a poor puppy stranded in the middle of the highway! Luckily, the little guy is safe and sound.

Now, a cop dedicated his lunch hour to another being in need: a homeless man. Sheriff Jim DeWees was out with his colleague Corporal Gunnar Burdt when they ran into the homeless man. That's when the corporal took out his wallet and bought him lunch.

But it's what he did next that made the sheriff take out his phone and snap a photo…

The corporal did more than simply buy the stranger lunch, and the sheriff needed to inform everyone he knew on social media about it.

He writes in a post:

"This is Corporal Gunnar Burdt, one of my patrol supervisors. He had no idea this photo of him was taken, but I felt compelled to explain what is taking place."

"The man he is sitting with is homeless and frequents this restaurant in Mt. Airy, MD. Corporal Burdt decided to not only buy him lunch, but sit and eat with him."

"Gunnar is one of my finest deputies and is the definition of a community police officer. If you look at a couple of my previous posts, you'll see that Gunnar was recently recognized for his part in saving an Eldersburg teen that was involved in a traffic collision and burning vehicle."

"I'm proud of him and the members of the sheriff's office. You may think what he is doing is above and beyond but it's the norm for him, most of my deputies, and most law enforcement officers in this country."
