These Fratboys Are Building 30 Tiny Homes For One Shocking Reason

The brothers of the Phi Kappa Psi colony at the University of Alabama in Huntsville are doing an absolutely amazing thing for homeless veterans in their community, and just in time for Veteran's Day.

Although the colony chapter has only been on campus for less than a year, they've already taken the initiative to establish a local organization called Foundations For Tomorrow, which aims to build a community of around 30, 500-square-feet mobile homes for veterans, WHNT reports.

The tiny mobile homes will have all of the accommodations of an efficiency apartment, but with a communal feel.

Residents will share and maintain a garden together that will serve as a common meeting place.

1. Hundreds of homeless people, including many veterans, currently reside in the forests Huntsville, which inspired the men of Phi Kappa Psi to take action with the help of local organizations.

2. “Me and my brothers were like, ‘we want to do something about this,'” fraternity president, Taylor Reed, told WHNT.

3. Taylor and his brothers were inspired to start the project after encountering a homeless man at a local Sonic restaurant and having a number of scheduled meals with local members of the homeless community.

4. Each tiny home will cost around $5,000 to build, and a local organization has already agreed to provide solar paneling.

5. Once the brothers raise enough money to buy the land where they will build the homes and acquire the necessary equipment, they plan on beginning construction using the models they have created.

6. “Any veteran that’s living in the woods, there’s something wrong with that,” Rusty Loiselle, CEO of Help Our Homeless Veterans and Civilians, told WHNT.

7. So far, the brothers of Phi Kappa Psi have raised over $2,900 out of their $10,000 goal.
