For the most part, we think of horses as graceful, self-assured creatures that are capable of handling pretty much anything that comes their way.
Of course, as majestic as horses are, they do occasionally need help from their human friends.
After all, horses, like any animal, can occasionally find themselves in scary situations where they might not be able to help themselves out, much like we saw with this tiny baby elephant that needed human help.
For horses, one of the most common and heartbreaking pickles to end up in involves getting stuck, quite literally, in a tough spot.
These sweet creatures, though incredibly strong and agile in their element, aren’t suited for all terrain. In some cases, they slip into ditches or other man-made holes in the ground, and can’t get back up again.
Sometimes it’s a well, other times it might be floodwater ditch or even a swimming pool. Regardless of how the horse ends up there, all that really matters is that he has people there to help him back up again.
Check out the incredible story of one lucky horse and his rescue below!
Horse rescues come in all shapes and sizes.
One that LittleThings covered previously involved a sinkhole opening up under a horse, and swallowing her practically whole.
That rescue involved lots of personnel and heavy-duty machinery before the horse could be released from the ground.
In the end of course, it was well worth all of the effort and the scary circumstances.
The adorable horse, named Ginger, had the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, terrifying her owner Carolyn.
Fortunately, she was rescued with almost no injury, and her vet said at the time, "She really couldn't be doing any better."
Ginger, however, is hardly the only horse to land herself in a scary spot thanks to bad luck…
Recently, another horse in Chichester, England, managed to stumble his way into a swimming pool.
The pool, which had been empty for the winter, was newly filled.
Maybe he was looking for a refreshing swim, or just a drink, but one way or another, he ended up deep in the water.
With his swim over, this silly horse found himself unable to climb out of the pool.
At that point, with no other way of helping him out, the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Team was called in to assist.
Fortunately, out in England's farm country, the team is pretty used to helping large animals like horses and cows out of trouble.
Just a couple of months back, the same department helped to heave an unfortunate horse that had fallen into a river.
They were able to hoist him free using a crane and a sling.
Back on dry land, he was warmed up and fed a big snack for being so brave.
For many of these rescues, they rely on a heavy-duty all-terrain vehicle called a Unimog.
The Fire and Rescue department used the high-power truck in the pool rescue, making sure that their latest rescue made it to dry land without incident.
Once he was safe and sound, the team handed him over to his owner and a vet, who will take care of him from here on, and make sure he's less inquisitive next time he spots a swimming pool!
