Most mannequins in store windows aren't true physical replicas of the people who stare back at them, so one organization set out to urge people to re-think the definition of beauty and perfection.
Pro Infirmis, an organization for the disabled, created a series of mannequins based on real people with physical disabilities. The figures are life-sized, three-dimensional representations of Miss Handicap 2010, Jasmin Rechsteiner, radio presenter and film critic Alex Oberholzer, track and field athlete Urs Kolly, blogger Nadja Schmid and actor Erwin Aljukic. Measurements were made and the mannequins were created to accurately reflect their bodies. Then they were unveiled!
In the video, one of the participants puts it best: "It's special to see yourself like this, when you usually can't look at yourself in the mirror."
After the participants viewed the mannequins, they were then placed in shop windows on Bahnhofstrasse, one of Zurich's main streets. The disabled mannequins got much attention from people passing by. This inspiring video ends on a powerful note, asking: "Because who is perfect?"
