Cats are furry, funny little creatures. Unlike dogs, who for the most part seem like they only want to have fun and please their owners, cats basically do their own thing 24/7.
If you call your cat, chances are he's not coming unless he knows you've just made him dinner. If you want your cat to sit next to you on the couch, it's likely he'll only do it if he feels like it, and especially not if you actually pick him up and place him there.
