VW Microbus Bunk Bed Is Every Kid’s Dream

As a kid, I was always going over to my best friend's house for sleepovers.

She had two sisters, and they had the coolest lofted beds. One of them had a swing hanging from the top, and the other had a slide she slid down every morning after she woke up.

Needless to say, I went home after every sleepover and whined to my mom about my boring four-poster bed to no avail.

Although beds in the shapes of cars and bunk beds with playhouses attached are way cool, they're also way too expensive! It's hard to justify making a purchase like that when little kids grow like weeds.

One solution to this problem? Do it yourself!

We found a DIY-er that goes by the name Uptonb on Instructables, and he decided instead of spending over $1,000 on a cool bunk bed for his nephew, he'd make one of his own.

In our opinion, the "VW" bunk bed he created looks way better than some you'd find in stores.

Take a look for yourself, and let us know what you think of this neat DIY project in the comments.

This clever DIY-er wanted to make a housewarming gift for his 3-year-old nephew.

He decided, since his brother is a big Volkswagen fan, he'd look online for some ideas.

He couldn't find anything that met his expectations, especially for the prices that were advertised.

He decided to come up with a design of his own, and the results are incredible!

He purchased all of his materials from a home store for just over $500, sans the mattress.

The VW accents he found online.

He suggests, if you're making one for yourself, to take a look at your local junkyard!

The bed is designed to come apart easily, making moving it around that much easier.

He started from the bottom base layer and worked his way up to the wall frames.

The front curved frame mimics that of a VW bus.

The headlight details and VW accents really give the front and the back of the bus some character.

The inside of the bus is one of the best parts.

It doubles as a playhouse and a place to sleep.

The bench seats will fold down to create a futon for epic slumber parties!

Here you can see the separate frames laid out in a row.

The bed easily breaks down in case its owners want to rearrange the bedroom or bring it with them to a new home!

After the security rail and the ladder were in position, he placed the mattress on top and the project was complete!

Although this DIY-er says the project was time-consuming and a bit frustrating, he's extremely happy with the final results.

We're sure his nephew is, too. Imagine having a cool bed like this as a kid!
