Fifty The Two-Legged Pit Bull Doesn’t Let Anything Stand In His Way

Fifty the Pit Bull knows what it's like to be a lifelong rescue. His mother was rescued while pregnant with him, and for a while, he lived a happy life with his rescue family and an adopted sister dog, Izzy.

But everything changed for Fifty on September 21, 2007, when he was shot by a police officer.

His family believes the shooting was due to breed discrimination, owing to the largely false stereotype of pit bulls being vicious dogs. However, they're really known more for their sweet and loyal personalities, like this gentle giant and his tiny baby friend.

Unfortunately for Fifty, some people apparently still hold onto those stereotypes.

Fifty was shot in both right limbs, resulting in a double amputation. As if things couldn't get any worse, Fifty's humans lost their home in the 2009 recession. Fifty and Izzy found themselves in a shelter, once again in need of a rescue.

After nine months, Fifty and Izzy, with the help of the animal shelter's dedicated manager, found a forever home with some kind folks.

Today, despite having only two limbs, Fifty is living large and even running on his own, showing us all that with determination and a great support system, we really can handle anything life throws at us.

Meet Fifty.

You've probably seen a number of three-legged dogs in your time, but Fifty only has two legs — specifically, two left legs.

He lost his in an unfortunate case of what his humans call "breed discrimination," when mistaken for a danger, he was shot by a police officer.

Given all he's been through, it would be easy to feel sorry for Fifty.

Especially when you get a look at that face!

But don't worry. Fifty, despite all the odds, is doing just fine.

He and his adopted sister found a forever home, and have been getting all the love, care, and attention they need. After recovering from his injury, Fifty is back on his feet.

Because he has to move differently than a dog with all its limbs, Fifty is treated to physical therapy and canine massage.

And yes, he can get around on his own!

Here he is tearing into the backyard to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

It's really amazing how resilient dogs are.

He's also learned to support himself against the fence and against walls as needed.

Not only is he resilient, but he's a smart, adaptable pooch, too!
