Have you ever gone to a drive-in movie theater? If you said no, it's probably because there isn't one anywhere near you. Grease might have led us to believe drive-in theaters are popular, but not anymore!
In the U.S., there are only 338 drive-in theaters left, making up less than 1.5 percent of movie theaters in the country. If you're lucky enough to live in a state where there is a drive-in close by or you lived by one when you were growing up, you know they're an unforgettable experience! There is something so enchanting about hanging out under the stars to watch a movie.
Delsea Drive-In is the very last theater of its kind in New Jersey. Which is ironic, as the first drive-in theater opened in NJ in 1933! Delsea has been around since 1949, and people still flock to the theater to see movies!

The theater opened 67 years ago, but it hasn't been in operation all of these years. It closed for almost 20 years, between 1987 and 2004.
The theater is known for their very extensive menu. No outside food is allowed, so visitors should come hungry and get on the snack bar line!
Visitors can listen to the movies from inside of their cars on the vehicle's radio, or they can listen via handheld radios, if they choose to sit outside.
The theater doesn't try to be retro, it plays movies as they open in regular theaters! So you can see the next Jurassic Park film here when it's released.
The theater also hosts film festivals — most recently it had the DRIVE-IN Film Festival.
The first drive-in theater opened Camden, NJ, in 1933! It was patented by Richard M. Hollingshead Jr., whose family owned and operated the R.M. Hollingshead Corporation chemical plant in Camden.
