Two Old Grills Become Fantastic Backyard Fire Pit

Who doesn't love a good fire pit? After Instructables user buck2217 built himself some fantastic backyard seating, he soon decided to upgrade the outdoor area further with a fabulous new fire pit.

Handy upcycler that he is, this creative builder repurposed a couple of old grills for the job — one for parts and the other for structure.

He started by disassembling the first old grill, keeping the parts he needed, and installing them into the second grill. Once he rigged the new unit with his burner, copper piping, and attached it to his gas line, this DIY-er tested out his new creation.

After a few tweaks here and there, he had an awesome, easy-to-use fire pit. Now, he and his guests will be able to enjoy summer evenings outdoors, warmed by the heat of a central hearth.

This Instructables user chose to upcycle two old grills for the job, which he bought for the fair prices of $2 and $5 each.

He dismantled the first grill entirely, saving its regulator, connection hose, burner, and gas valve.

Next, he installed these parts into the second, kettle-style BBQ bowl shaped grill.

He attached a copper pipe to the grill and burner.

Then, this crafty upcycler wrapped the pipe in plastic for protection, dug a trench, and ran the pipe through the trench toward his gas supply.

Next, this builder tested his creation, quickly realizing he needed to make a few tweaks.

A few of his connections were leaking gas underneath the fire pit bowl, causing flames to shoot out from its sides.

He quickly reinforced the burner adhesions with epoxy and lined the underbelly of the fire pit with sand. This sand would dissuade lingering gas from accumulating in undesirable locals and catching fire.

After a few more test runs, this DIY-er's new fire pit began burning bright.

He tidied up the fire pit's surrounding area, giving the space a clean, modern look.
