After sketching out a plan, the DIY-ers laid out the floor.
The eight-foot by eight-foot frame will give the kids plenty of space to move around!
Although the whole house will be a solid structure by the time it's done, the DIY-ers do live in Kansas where it gets very windy, so they secured the floor to the ground.
After that, they began building the wall frames!
The old outpost is starting to take shape!
After lifting the frames into place, they screwed them together.
Next, they attached their routed fence boards to the siding.
Starting from the bottom and working their way up, they alternated lengths of the boards to give the little house some character.
Almost done now!
The DIY-ers finished off the biggest part of the project by framing the porch cover and adding a plywood roof.
After stapling black felt roofing paper down, they marked their nail lines.
Next, they placed down some beautiful cedar shingles for the roof.
Last, but certainly not least, it was on to the details! The DIY-ers added a nice Western touch with this wood-burned sign marked, "Outpost."
Get your kids involved with this step! Picking out a name for their new playhouse will give them the chance to get creative.
A few finishing touches really make this Western outpost unique.
The DIY-ers added some fake bullet holes in the siding, a bell at the front door, and some antlers to hang on the inside.
The project is complete! All it needs now are a few cowboys from the Wild West.
These kids are lucky to have such creative parents and we're sure they're going to have a blast all summer long.
About six months after completing the project, the DIY-ers decided to give the fort a rustic touch-up with some dark stain. It looks even more authentic than ever!
