A scientist in Peru recently captured one of the cutest videos of all time.
It all started when that lucky scientist heard a bizarre noise coming from the hummingbird area. Every three seconds, a high-pitched squeak shot through the room.
It sounded like a tiny little firework shooting into the sky, but it certainly couldn't be that. Was it possibly the sound of a tiny balloon letting its air out of a tiny hole? Once again, probably not.
As the scientist got closer and closer to the sound, they must have slowly opened the door to the hummingbird resting area. When they opened said door, they were met with one of the single most adorable things I have ever seen in my life. You have to see this video to believe it.
Hummingbirds are the smallest species of birds, most of which only measure 3–5 inches! They get their name from the easily recognizable humming sound created by their wings, which flap at speeds of up to 50–200 times per second. They can fly at speeds up to 34 mph, going forward, backwards and even upside down!
The adorable little bird in this video is probably undergoing a state of torpor. During the night, or if food is not easily available, they enter this hibernation-like state to keep their energy reserves from falling to fatal levels. During this state, their body temperature lowers, along with their heart rate and breaths per minute.
Hummingbirds are certainly magnificent creatures, and beautiful, too. But who knew they could be so human! Adorable!
