Gym class can be difficult for a lot of youngsters fighting their way through the school day. I know I spent a little more time in the nurse's office due to "allergies" than my sinuses really warranted when things got a bit overwhelming for me as a kid. The fear that another student might make fun of you for any lack of athletic ability only makes the situation worse, but the young man in the video below definitely didn't have to worry about that on his school's annual sports day.
Eleven-year old Rory Kettles, who has Down syndrome, always enjoys joining in on the festivities but, as a symptom of his disorder, often finds himself distracted while trying to keep up with his classmates during the race. Since this was the last day the boys would see each other at the same school, each of them moving on to different middle schools next year, they wanted to make the day extra special for their friend. All of them had been at Wrawby St. Mary's Primary School in England together since they were 4 years old, so it was definitely an emotional day for everyone.
As they made their way to the field for the final race, Rory was completely unaware that his friends were hiding the heartwarming secret from him. After launching into his sprint to the finish line, all of the other boys locked their arms together and slowed their pace in order to make sure Rory was the winner. The amazing moment was all their idea!
