Officers Shed Tears As They Say Goodbye To A Beloved Police Dog

When an officer is lost in the line of duty, it's always difficult. While it is a risk of the job, it still always comes as a complete and utter shock when it happens. After all, no one wants to expect the worst.

Fargo, a Belgian Malinois K-9 officer, loved his job almost as much as he loved his trainer, Deputy Warren Cavanagh. The pup started at just nine months old and was one of the force for five years. He made everyone's days brighter while he also made sure to keep his partner safe.

Then, during an armed robbery, he was shot and killed.

The bond that the two shared was like none other. Fargo knew what Cavanagh was going to say before he even uttered a word. The two were inseparable as only an officer and his K-9 partner can be. They put themselves in danger together. They trusted each other. Fargo lived with his partner at home and the pup had become part of the family. Cavanagh's 8-year-old daughter still feels the missing piece of the family.

Fargo's funeral was filled with tears from everyone. It was the first time in 37 years that a K-9 officer had been killed in the line of duty with this department.

Everyone, from human officers to Fargo's K-9 companions, to family members and friends, stood in the rain to honor a pooch who brought fond memories to all who knew him.

May he rest in peace.

And as Cavanagh said“Saying goodbye means you’re never going to see him again… So I said, ‘I’ll see you later.’”
