Rusty Washing Machine Becomes Roaring Backyard Fire Pit

While many husbands shower their wives with flowers, chocolates, or jewelry on Valentine's Day, a while back, one crafty DIY-er instead chose to gift his love something she'd been wanting for quite some time: a fire pit.

Instructables user walts.theman knew he'd build this special gift with his own two hands, but couldn't decide on materials to use for the job.

Then, a friend reached out needing to scrap an old washing machine, and this upcycler's instincts kicked into high gear.

He claimed the washer and immediately disassembled the entire appliance, solely focused on extracting one key component: its drum.

After thoroughly grinding and sanding off the washer drum's caked-on grime, he cut and reassembled an old bed frame he had lying around into a fire pit base.

Then, he covered the drum in a few coats for high heat paint, and decorated it with an adorable wire rod bearing his and his wife's initials. Just like that, this doting husband's adorable gift was ready and waiting to set his love's heart aflame.

A few Valentine's Days ago, Instructables user walts.theman chose to gift the love of his life a present she'd absolutely adore: a fire pit.

While preparing his design plan, he received word that a friend's neighbor was itching to scrap his old washing machine.

This news peaked his crafty upcycling interests — the old washing machine's drum could make for a great fire pit basin.

So, this DIY-er quickly relieved the neighbor of his washing machine, and started disassembling the appliance.

Within half an hour, he'd extracted its drum.

Then, he reassembled the rest of the machine, and trekked it to the scrapyard where he snagged cash to fund the rest of his build.

With the money he made from scrapping the rest of the washing machine, this DIY-er bought some high heat paint, steel rods, and flat metal bars.

He then got to work sanding and grinding years of dirt and rust off of his washer drum's surface.
