Talented Spinner Commemorates Beloved Pets By Turning Their Fur Into Yarn

Pet owners who have long-haired, fluffy dogs know the predicament that their shedding creates. Between routine brushing and the clumps of fuzz that simply fall off of their body naturally, they can produce a truly staggering amount of fur.

Though this can be irritating as well as allergy inducing, there's also an emotional element to your adorable pooch's hair.

Whether it's long and luscious or short and wire-like, our dog's fur is an important part of their identity. The touch of your dog's fur can be familiar and comforting, especially if you have a soft, fluffy puppy that you love to cuddle up with.

But what if I told you that you can have this emotional reminder of your pet all the time, even after they have passed? Well, you can — and Marion Wheatland can help make it happen!

Using her talent for spinning wool, she will turn dog fur from inquirers into yarn to make scarves, hats, and even pillow cases.

“Pets are part of the family,” states Marion Wheatland on her website.

And she’s right! Dog owners know how special their four-legged friends are, and how good they feel when they stroke or snuggle up to their furry bodies.

If you love your fluffy friend so much that you want them around you all of the time, Wheatland can help you — but not in the way one might expect.

With 26 years of spinning fibers under her belt, she knows a thing or two about what can be turned into yarn.

She's traveled all over the world (even Antarctica) with her trusty spinning wheel, sheering and showing off her various wares.

She also teaches others how to spin their own fibers and create their own clothing from scratch.

But ever eager to expand her horizons, Wheatland has recently embarked on a new endeavor.

She's begun to spin pet hair, experimenting with the fur of these breeds: Samoyed, husky, Newfoundland, Pyrenees Mountain dog, Belgian shepherd, schnauzer, Airedale, and even Persian cat.

With her skill for spinning, she's in the market for dog lovers who want to turn their beloved pet's hair into something they can cherish forever.

This can be fur that was naturally shed, fur that was shaved at the groomer, or the fur of a beloved pet that's passed away.

So far, her mission to create these funny fibers has been a success.

In order to be spinnable, the animal fibers need to be at least thumb-length — and owners of long-haired pets have it in abundance!
