Children should all be loved the same, no matter who they are, what they look like, or the number of chromosomes they have.
Down syndrome children are very often subject to discrimination in many different ways. They can be misunderstood and mistreated by the naive people in the world, and sometimes they are left feeling like outcasts with their families feeling hopeless.
Gigi's Playhouse is a place where families with Down syndrome relatives of all ages can come to get a sense of support, family, and relief in the fact that they are not alone and there is nothing wrong with the way their child is going to grow up.
They call it a "Down Syndrome Achievement Center," because everyone within those walls is there to make personal progress and growth within themselves. Gigi's Playhouse has training, internships, and many more programs to help people with Down syndrome become the best and happiest people they can be.
Gigi's Playhouse is changing lives every day, and I think we could all learn something from the people who run the program, but more importantly, the people who attend it. When Gonzalo finds Gigi's Playhouse and brings his son Jacob there for the first time, a rush of emotions comes over him. What he says at :45 is simply beautiful.
