Son Surprises Dad With Restored WWII Jeep

Gerry Hisel holds his father, Sidney Hisel, in great esteem. Sidney served in World War II, and while he doesn't talk much about the war, Gerry always knew it was something that shaped his father's life. The son spent five years preparing a massive surprise for his dad. Gerry restored the very M38 A1 jeep that his father drove in the Second World War.

The rusty old car was completely transformed. Gerry painted it in naval colors and even had his dad's ship and service number written on the hood. It is really something special. Sidney was so taken aback by the gesture. He didn't understand why his son — teary eyed through the whole surprise — went through all this trouble just for him.

"It's hard to describe. It hits you right here. How can you describe something that deep?" Sidney said. "You've got to really appreciate it and I really don't understand that devotion, but I do."

Sidney helped transport the jeep down the Mississippi River around 1945.

"It was unbelievable that it meant something to him, to see that happen. I really can't put it into words," Gerry said.
