Family Surprised At Golf Tournament When Their Soldier Dad Comes Home

Servicemen and servicewomen must spend long stretches of time away from their families, but as U.S. Army Major Timothy Jenkins says, "When you come home you just appreciate things more, it just means so much more.”

The soldier has spent the better part of the past year deployed in Kuwait—10 months to be exact. That meant spending nearly a year away from his wife and five children, including a 3-year-old son.

His family knew that he would be coming home soon, but before his return date, they attended a military appreciation ceremony at a golf tournament at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. The family thought they would be accepting an award on the soldier's behalf, but Jenkins had quite the plan in place. Instead of giving the soldier's award, the announcer introduced his return and appearance on the floor, in front of the crowd. Jenkins turned a corner, running straight into the arms of his entire family! No one could believe their eyes, but their happy tears say it all

Jenkins will spend 30 days with his family before returning abroad to Turkey for a year-long deployment.
