Strangers Rescue A Man Who Fell Onto New York City Subway Tracks

This is, quite possibly, my worst nightmare realized: Falling on the train tracks. For a multitude of reasons, this happens more often than many assume, and it can be utterly terrifying to experience or even just to witness. But this time, when a man collapsed at the City Hall train station in NYC, he wasn’t alone.

In the video, three men are crouched down low, inspecting the man for injuries and to see whether he’s at all conscious. Then, with little more than speed and their own strength, they hoist his body up to the waiting arms on the platform above. Just watching this video made me nervous. I felt my heart beating furiously the entire time!

Like the man who rescued four people who were drowning in a riptide, or a stranger who pulled an unconscious man from a burning car, seemingly ordinary people do extraordinary things every day.

A man’s life was saved thanks to the quick thinking of three strangers — not to mention the crowd of commuters who were equally eager to lend a helping hand. I’m so relieved that he seemed to be recovering at the end! If you keep watching, you’ll catch the most beautiful moment of all: One of the rescuers reaches out to hold the man’s hand, tightly, in a sign of solidarity and comfort.
