IKEA's PATRULL safety gates have been recalled by the company, because many of them have the potential to become unmounted from the wall. There have been at least 18 of these injuries so far, and three children have fallen down stairs and have been hurt.
Thankfully, none of the injuries have been too serious, and thankfully IKEA is taking these risks very seriously. They are informing everyone to take the baby gates back for a full refund, no questions asked.
While there have been injuries, we're thankful that even big companies like IKEA have the intelligence to recall their products of their own volition. Their warnings are quite strong that this product should not be used. If you or anyone you know has a baby gate of any sort, please make sure to check to see where exactly it comes from and what the name of the product is.
You never know when you can save a life, and the potential dangers here are very serious. Please check with all the parents you know — it's better to be safe than sorry!
