Rescuers Shocked To Find Abandoned Monkey In A Purse

Making the decision to purchase or adopt a pet is a big one that shouldn't be taken lightly. Animals are a big responsibility, and they deserve our time, love, and attention.

Some pets are easier to look after than others. You definitely don't need to put as much effort into caring for a goldfish as you do a golden retriever. Some people simply aren't equipped to care for an animal.

This is especially true when it comes to keeping an exotic pet. There are very few people that have the know-how and resources to properly care for an exotic or wild animal, but for whatever reason they try it anyway.

Even celebrities like Justin Bieber have tried and failed to care for exotic pets due to inexperience. Despite the many warning signs, people continue to purchase wild animals and quickly realize they're in over their heads.

Scroll down to find out what happened to one poor monkey whose owner was sadly in over their head, and let us know what you think in the comments.

Rescuers at the Laos Wildlife Rescue Center are no strangers to animal drop-offs.

The center acts as a safe haven for exotic animals that have been abandoned by their former owners who were unable to care for them.

This case was particularly upsetting, however.

The center prefers to have well coordinated drop-offs that include paperwork and a back story on each animal so they can give them the best care. All they received in this instance was a purse.

After taking a quick glance within, it was clear that the animal inside was a monkey.

"With no idea what type of monkey was inside the bag, their temperament, or physical wellbeing, the team rushed the animal to the clinic where the purse was opened with urgency and care," the rescue center explained in a press release.

The female pig-tailed macaque, aptly named Purse, allowed the rescuers to gently remove her from the bag and pull the chains off from around her waist.

Quickly, she was moved to quarantine facilities so her recovery could begin.

"Although she is underweight, she is building her strength every day and can soon be moved into the center's larger primate fields," the press release went on to explain.

"The Primate Park is an ongoing project to provide primates like Purse with an appropriate living space."

Someday soon, we hope to see plenty of photos of Purse living in her new open-topped enclosure with other primates just like her.
