I’m all about vintage videos being repurposed for a new audience to enjoy — and, of course, the people who already remember the classics!
This particular performance was filmed in 1989 during the National Aerobic Championships, and a whole room full of gymnasts flocked to the center of the floor for this one dance.
While their movin’ and groovin’ was impressive enough to begin with, a savvy music fan noticed that their choreography matched up perfectly with a modern song: Taylor Swift’s famous “Shake It Off.”
The rest is, as they say, history!
People all over the world shared this video when it was first released, and I can certainly see why. With sharp, synchronized dance steps and an upbeat tune that’s always on the radio, it’s weirdly satisfying to see two different generations coming together to form something new.
If you enjoyed this, I’d highly recommend watching the classic movie mash-up set to the modern “Uptown Funk” song. Even better, some of the most recognizable characters on television all dance in one delightfully entertaining video.
