DIY Fire Hose Herb Garden Is The Perfect Backyard Addition

One of my favorite summertime activities has always been spending time in the backyard with my garden. And with so many great ideas out there for one-of-a-kind home gardening, the sky really has always been the limit.

I've seen everything from vertical gardens to flower pot candle holders. But when I spotted this project for making an herb garden out of an old fire hose, I was truly inspired!

This project comes from Imgur user sightfire, who turned a used fire hose into the perfect backyard addition. This vertical garden is great for anyone with a green thumb, or anyone who is just looking to grow their own fresh herbs.

This clever crafter decided to give his backyard an upgrade by creating an herb garden unlike any other.

To get started, he picked up an old 25-foot fire house for only $10.

He then cut the fire hose into one-foot sections.

He removed the inner sleeves from inside each of the pieces and was now set to begin constructing each "pocket" for his herbs.

This DIY-er folded over one end of each hose section and made two holes using a drill.

He stitched bailing wire through the holes, twisting them together in the back, to form a secure bottom to each pocket.

He attached the pockets to his backyard gate in an overlapping pattern, using only a single screw to hold each pocket in place.

Finally, it was time to make these fire hose sections into a home for his herbs.

He writes that he put a "little bit of gravel in the bottom for drainage."

He scooped potting soil into each of the pockets.

He then carefully placed the herbs into the pockets.

He writes, "You can see here how much the pockets expand."

The whole project was finished in only four hours.

And since the hose only cost him $10 and the herbs only cost him $19, this backyard creation was quite economical!
