Community members began to see the image of a little girl circulate on Facebook and decided to do something about it. In the photo, the child was unharmed, but there was something else disturbing about it: it was advertising the child for sale.
The mother and community members contacted KUAM news and expressed outraged with the Facebook post.
The ad read: "Would love to give her to a nice wonderful family. Anyone interested? She's lost, and parents don't want her. Who's willing to help?"
Many concluded that it was just meant to be a joke, but the mother is rightfully spooked. We've seen incidences like this before where pictures of children and pregnant moms were taken and posted elsewhere.
"There were more posts that were sent to me that she was up for sale that someone wanted to give her away because we had abandoned her at Agana Shopping Center. And they wanted to give her to a wonderful family because we left her. But she's been with me the whole time," the frightened mother said.
What left the mother even more disturbed was that the photo, taken at a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese, was not a photograph she had taken. The mother has kept her daughter close at all times.
"She's a wonderful baby. She's smart for her age. She means the world to me, and I don't know why someone would do it to her," she said.
After the mother reported the incident to the police, the post was quickly removed and the user's account deleted.
