For over a year, 69-year-old Brenda Jones waited on a list for a kidney transplant.
The great-grandma's liver was failing, and without a new one, she would eventually die. After all of her waiting, Jones was finally notified that she'd made it to the top of the donor list, and a kidney was ready for her.
At the same time, 26-year-old Abigail Flores was also suffering kidney failure. Her situation was dire. Doctors only gave Abigail a day, at best, if she did not get a transplant.
Surgeons knew that this news of her health would move her up on the waiting list, but by the time that happened, she would most likely have died already. That is where Jones stepped in.
Once doctors knew that the organs meant for Jones were a perfect match for Flores, they asked if she would mind staying on the waiting list just a little while longer. She agreed at once because she knew that she could never live with herself if she hadn't let Flores have the kidney.
Abigail's father had an emotional meeting with Jones after finding out that she had helped saved his little girl's life. Flores knows that without Jones, she would not be here today.
Thankfully, Jones' generosity was quickly rewarded. Only days later, another kidney became available for her to get the transplant. Both women are now on the mend and have formed an incredible bond!
