Woman Who Was Teased For Her Skin Condition Embraces Her Inner And Outer Beauty

For some heartbreaking reason, there always seems to be at least one group of kids growing up who decide to make it their mission to make those around them feel absolutely miserable.

Bullies often have their own insecurities that they're acting out against, but that doesn't take the sting away as they inflict cruelty onto their poor victims. Being unique in any small way can make a child their instant target, something Tanesha Brown was sad to learn when she entered middle school and realized just how different she was from the rest of her class.

In fact, she's the only one like her in her family as well. Brown developed a skin condition called vitiligo when she was just 5 years old and gradually began developing white spots all over her body where the melanin had been depleted.

After spending years feeling like there was something wrong with her and constantly asking, "Why me?" Brown has finally come to accept that her unusual appearance is nothing to be ashamed of.

On top of all the issues most teens endure during their youth — acne, hormones, and whatever else the universe decides to throw at us — Tanesha Brown was forced to figure out how she could be comfortable in her own skin as it changed from day to day.

Kids would tease her and call her names like "dalmatian" and "zebra," and Brown began relying on heavy makeup to cover up the spots in an attempt to hide her embarrassment.

Of course, it was difficult for her to see how beautiful and distinct the condition actually made her.

Today, the makeup artist and mom of three boys has completely turned over a new and empowering leaf. Instead of using products to hide her skin, she embraces the way she can play with her looks and helps others to learn to do the same.

Through Brown's inspiring mission to help those in need of a confidence boost, she's also teaching her sons that beauty isn't just about what's on the outside. Her heart clearly shines brighter than any skin condition could ever cloud.
