I love flowers in just about any context.
I love getting a whole bundle on my birthday, I love growing them in my garden, and I just adore any opportunity to arrange them in new and interesting ways, like we saw with this gorgeous teacup tutorial!
So naturally, when I saw flowers on a cake, I was immediately obsessed!
And we aren’t just talking about a few rosettes or sugared violets here. These are full-blown pastry chef masterworks, courtesy of Sweet Petal Cake in Bangkok, Thailand.
They might be a bit too far afield for me to commission them for my next birthday, but fortunately, it’s easy to admire their masterpieces from afar on Instagram.
The bakery specializes in buttercream cakes and cupcakes, but perhaps unlike the kind Mom and Grandma made, these are works of art worthy of Monet!

The incredible artisans at Sweet Petal make a labor of love out of every single pastry and cake!
These adorable mini cupcakes might be sweet to eat, but at first glance, they look like a garden of cactuses.
We especially love the detail of the teeny tiny flowers!
Of course, sometimes, flowers are the main attraction!
This beautiful cake features a dramatic crescent of peonies and roses.
The arrangement is done almost entirely in pastel shades, except for sweet maroon details!
This sweet arrangement looks like the perfect gift to bring to a green-thumbed pal's birthday party!
Adorably decorated with miniature succulents, who wouldn't love two dozen cupcakes this cute?
And we can't get over just how realistic the itty-bitty greenery on each cake looks!
For a slightly more extravagant take on the same thing, the talented pastry chefs took their same talent for succulents and gave it a twist!
This cake is specially designed with layers of fondant, so that it looks like a round hatbox.
It's so full of tiny frosting plants that they almost look like they are about to tumble out!
For a slightly more delicate effect, the Sweet Petal artisans create a gorgeous, plain white, buttercream cake.
On top, they cluster dozens of very tiny cherry-style blossoms.
With the way they drape them in little clusters, they almost look like butterflies flocking.
While they generally truck in hyperrealism, the pastry artists also do an excellent job of more mod-looking arrangements.
This super-size daisy covers the whole top of the cake and drapes slightly down the sides.
As a bonus, this cake would be cute as a button for a bridal shower!
We are all about this stunner of a cake liberally studded with tulips!
These gorgeous flowers come in a million shades of pastel, loaded with purples, pinks, and oranges.
We can't help but see this as the perfect springtime cake for Mother's Day or Easter.
There's definitely something to be said about serving a spectacular cake like this beauty on your wedding day.
The plain white of the base of the cake is perfect for a wedding day full of white gowns and ribbons, while the flowers add gorgeous flair to the confection!
Plus, you can use the color palette to evoke your season. This one is looking like a fall wedding to us.
And the pièce de résistance?
A beautiful blossom-covered cake that the pastry chef made for her boyfriend's birthday!
Maybe because it was made with extra love, there's something extra special about this cake — just look how dainty and diaphanous these blossoms are!
