Baby Baboon Stands Out From The Troop Because Of His Pure White Fur

Earlier this summer, travel photographer Su Elliot was filming at the Marula Lodge in Zambia when she stumbled across this beautifully unique baboon. She’s named this one-of-a-kind baboon Albo.

Albo reminds me of another baby baboon that is equally as cute. Thank God for the internet’s endless supply of precious animal moments caught on camera.

Albo stands out from his troop for one obvious reason, his white fur. The tiny white baboon suffers from a condition known as leucism.

This condition creates white, patchy, or pale skin during the partial loss of pigmentation and can exist among zebras, lions, and pigeons as well. Although leucism doesn’t affect an animal’s health, it can definitely appear that way.

His pale skin and white coat makes him a target among other baboons and predators, therefore causing his mom to keep a very close eye on him.

Luckily, being that most baboons grow darker as they age, this adorably tiny baboon may lose his white fur in time. Although I think Albo looks good in white, it’s not the safest color he can have when trying to survive.

Su Elliot wishes to track him as he grows, and I’d personally love to see Albo’s development over the next couple of years.
