Bullying is a huge problem in our schools these days. It doesn't matter where you come from, who you are, or whether you send your children to public or private school. There will always be bullies. With back to school season upon us, I'm sure many parents are worried.
Ideally, we will find a way to stop bullying all together. However, until then, don't you think that it's important to teach our children how to stand up to bullies who have the potential to both physically and mentally harm them?
Everyone, no matter what age, should know how to properly defend him or her self.
For children, one of the most important things to teach them is the idea of "stranger danger."
However, the reality is that it's usually not strangers who inflict the most harm. It's their classmates, or people in their community they've grown to trust.
Assembly of Martial Arts Academy founder, Adam Rylski, is teaching kids how to stand up for themselves through karate. It's not just about learning how to physically protect themselves, though. The kicks and the punches are just a last resort in self defense.
Before these children will ever use their kids and punches, they'll use their words and their assertiveness. Rylski teaches these kids how to tell bullies to never, ever touch them again.
I don't know about you, but I think it's incredibly important for kids to learn how to speak up for themselves in all circumstances. They should all know how much they're worth!
