In the face of tragedy, there are always a wide variety of reactions, from private mourning to public vigils to small acts of kindness.
The students at Mason High School in Mason, OH, were left shocked and grief-stricken after a classmate's recent suicide. And while there is no right or wrong response to a tragedy of this magnitude, several teens took a unique and moving approach to the extremely trying and sensitive time.
High schooler Anna Aronson led four of her friends on an ambitious expedition that took close to eight hours to complete. The sophomores wrote out beautiful, supportive messages on thousands of Post-it notes — over 3,600 of them — and placed them on the lockers throughout Mason High School.

When the staff and students arrived to Mason High School on the morning of August 31, they were greeted with a beautiful and heartfelt surprise.
In response to the suicide of a fellow classmate, sophomore Anna Aronson and four of her friends placed Post-it notes on over 3,600 lockers throughout the school.
Each note contained a special and supportive message to the locker's owner.
Aronson, Erica English, Ellie Uematsu, Michelle Crispin, and Jessica Morse stayed at the school until 10 p.m. the previous night, writing messages and hanging them throughout the halls.
They even included the adults as well, by putting notes on staff doors and desks.
One of the girls responsible, Erica English, told ABC News, "Even though we're a big school, we're still a tight-knit community.
"After this tragedy hit, everyone was hit pretty hard. We just want everyone to know that you're not alone and you're loved."
The notes proclaimed a wide variety of supportive messages such as "You are unbreakable," "You are loved," "You are strong," and "You are wonderful."
This surprising act was extremely well-received among students, parents, faculty, and community members.
Several photos of the notes were posted online by Mason City Schools, with the caption: "This morning, MHS students were greeted with messages of hope and healing. Many thanks to these kind sophomores for reaching out."
This act of kindness and support for the rest of the school community has gone absolutely viral, with the story and Post-ot photos being shared on Facebook thousands of times.
In times of tragedy, signals of support, love, and encouragement can make all the difference in the lives of those who are sad, grieving, or uncertain.
These girls are an absolute inspiration to us all.
