Teen Dangles From A Broken Carnival Ride After Safety Bar Opens In The Air

I'm not an adventurous person. The last time I stepped foot on a Ferris wheel, one of the least action-packed options at a carnival or an amusement park, I not only ended up in tears myself, but also caused my younger cousin to do the same.

During a recent trip to Coney Island with my coworkers, though, I decided to be more adventurous and attempt a few rides. I regretted each one immediately, but I'm glad none of them turned out as truly terrifying as the recent string of unfortunate accidents.

In the past month alone, six different rides across the country suffered life-threatening malfunctions that sent dozens of riders, mostly children, to the hospital.

Most recently, a ride called Moonraker at the Delta Fair in Memphis, TN, which spins and raises in the air, left its passengers dangling for their lives when the safety bar opened before reaching the ground again. One teen girl named Faith was among those who fell to the ground and suffered serious injuries.

That very same day, another ride across the country in Chicago wounded six children when it stopped abruptly and caused them to hit their heads.

While these incidents are rare — the majority of the time rides function perfectly fine — the current frequency has many families steering clear of rides altogether.
