A Kansas woman is being hailed a hero for her quick thinking when she discovered a toddler locked inside a hot vehicle.
Sarah Oropeza, the manager at Famous Footwear, was working her shift when a teen employee alerted her that there was a child trapped in a hot car in the parking lot.
"The windows were totally rolled up, all the doors were locked. She was covered in sweat. When I looked in the back window, she was covered in sweat. She had pulled her hair back and sweat was just dripping," Oropeza told KCTV 5 News.
As she searched for a way to break into the car, at least four other moms in the parking lot stepped in to try and help her.
"You hear about children dying in cars because parents leave them in it to run in a store for 5 minutes when it's scorching hot out. NEVER in my life would I ever imagine seeing a child drenched in sweat locked in a car. It was the scariest moment of my life," Oropeza posted on Facebook after the harrowing ordeal.
"My heart was beating faster than it has ever beated in my life. Finally a girl with a hitch comes and breaks the window, and the child is out. She wasn't with parents but a babysitter. Never trust anyone with your children people. Be smart make smart choices when it comes to your kids. Always put them first. I literally broke down in tears in front of everyone because I could not imagine losing my children. I am so grateful God placed me here on this day to help that little girl. There is a reason for everything. And I know God is telling me something and sending a message to everyone," she added.
According to child care experts, leaving a child in the car for even a few minutes could be a deadly decision. In just 10 minutes, the temperature inside a vehicle can soar 20 degrees. On that particular day, temperatures in Kansas City felt like 110 degrees!
