Beating The Odds: Man Struck By Lightning Wins Lottery

Peter McCathie has the most seemingly impossible odds. After he survived being hit by lightning when he was a teen, McCathie has now won a $1 million lottery prize. Both events combined come to about a 1 in 2.6 trillion chance!

McCathie is splitting the $1 million Lotto 6/49 prize with co-worker Diana Miller, and he'll be getting an additional $10,000 since he owns the Amherst Shore Country Store in Amherst Shore, Nova Scotia, where they bought the $3 ticket.

The lucky man says that he is going to use his winnings to pay off some debt and may also go on a second honeymoon with his wife to Ecuador to celebrate the couple's 30th anniversary, according to a press release from the Atlantic Lottery.

He had been buying lottery tickets for a while, but he never imagined he'd actually hit the jackpot!

"I honestly expected to get hit by lightning again first," he told CTV.

When he was 14, he was stuck by lightning – a nearly one in one million chance — while he was boating in shallow waters. Eerily, McCathie's daughter was also struck by lightning a few years ago, too!

Having overcome these near-impossible odds, it proves that anything can happen in life.
