Music lovers, you're in for a huge treat.
In 2010, CBS aired its broadcast of the 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors, which awards exemplary lifetime achievement in the performing arts. This was the year that Oprah Winfrey was one of the honorees. Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson took the stage to give Oprah a mind-blowing tribute. Per Oprah's request, Jennifer brought down the house with her rendition of "I'm Here" from the Oprah-produced Broadway show, The Color Purple.
I love how Oprah reaches behind to hold her partner's hands, and doesn't let go for the remainder of the performance. And when the stage lights come up to reveal the Tennessee State Choir standing behind Jennifer, joining her for the song's climax, Oprah's jaw drops to the floor. If this doesn't give you chills, nothing will!
"I'm Here" is a song about coming to love one's self for the first time ever, which is fitting for Oprah's tribute song. Growing up experiencing poverty, abuse, racism, and rejection, it was these experiences that led her to self-discovery and self-acceptance, and in turn she became one of the most powerful women in the world.
As for Jennifer, her voice is truly a gift from God. She began singing in her small hometown church where she brought the congregation to its feet every week. Now, she brings Oprah to tears. Incredible! Please enjoy the powerhouse performance below, and SHARE it with your friends on Facebook!
