Actor Nick Offerman, who famously played Ron Swanson on the show Parks and Recreation, is a passionate woodworker.
In fact, Offerman cares so deeply for his craft, he once told Wood Magazine: “I cling to my woodworking. I feel like there’s a social consciousness to it. It keeps me from becoming another sad Hollywood guy with too much disposable income and nothing to do. It’s my church.”
But judging by the incredible backyard project you're about the see, Offerman isn't the only passionate woodworker out there!
He might not be a famous celebrity, but the woodwork of Imgur user bbkong is definitely worthy of fame. When I saw what he did with a simple pile of lumber, I knew he was bound for Internet stardom.
The incredible gate he created might not ever grace the cover of Wood Magazine, but considering it combines my two favorite things — DIY projects and bacon — this backyard makeover is number one in my book!

He started with a pile of redwood.
First, he created a pattern.
“I'm lazy when it comes to math so I looked around and found a radius I thought was close, drew a straight line down that piece of pine and eyeballed the curve,” he said.
Then he “attacked it with the jigsaw.”
He then used it as a pattern for the rest of the wood.
Once he had all his pieces, he sanded it.
Then he nested them together to get a straight square line across the bottom “using an eight-foot piece of aluminum C channel and strap I keep around for long straight edges.”
Next, he marked a line for the top of his project.
Then he cut the exact shape he wanted.
He was then struck by inspiration and thought of an addition to his project, so he cut more wood in the shape of a mustache.
He varnished it to the same hue as the other wood.
Then he got rid of his old gate.
He then put up the framing for his new addition.
Next he assembled the pieces.
Then he clamped, freed them, and “proceeded with slamming screws.”
Next thing he knew, “Boom! I now have a bacon wall.”
It also acts as a gate...but he wasn’t done there.
He began to install his mustache-shaped pieces of wood over the gate.
Creating an overhead trellis.
The end result is a whimsical wavy gate with hanging vines he dubbed “Bacon Gate” after his favorite breakfast food.
Bacon’s never looked prettier.
